Instrument - Alto Saxophone
Overview
Avant-Garde was a term given to the “new” jazz that could not be classified. Ornette Coleman was a pioneer that was criticized for his experimentation with “Free Jazz” where the musician improvises without any direction from a set chord progression. When Ornette Coleman teamed up with the equally creative skills of Trumpeter Don Cherry, interesting things happened. This music may be hard to understand, but Jazz isn't’t always pretty.
