	Overview Art Blakey and his group, the Jazz Messengers, co-led with pianist Horace Silver were at the cornerstone of the Hard Bop movement. Blakey and Silver had the ability to spot young emerging jazz talent and helped to give these future jazz stars the wings to fly on their own. Blakey was content to stay in the groove with his messengers where other jazz artists tried to reinvent the wheel.
