Overview
Mark Knopfler was the songwriter and solo drive behind the Dire Straits. His gritty, finger picking solos often gave his electric guitar the imitative effect of a distorted electric piano. His career did not end with the Dire Straits. His collaboration with vocal superstar Sting on Money for Nothing inspired him to also work with country guitarist Chet Atkins and folk/storyteller James Taylor.
