Overview Edward “Duke” Ellington was the son of a White House butler and had very sophisticated manners. This led to his nickname “Duke”. Ellington was known for his equally sophisticated arrangements that gave his band orchestra-like respect. His piano introduction to "Take the A Train" has to be one of the top ten recognizable licks in Jazz history. |
