Name - Louis Daniel Armstrong (1901 – 1971) |
Instrument - Trumpet (Cornet), Voice | |
Overview Known as the Father of Modern Jazz, Armstrong was credited with the development of the harmonic improvisation style. Armstrong's nickname is short for "Satchel mouth." This derogatory nickname was earned as his cheeks blew up when he played the cornet. In 1932, on a trip to London, Armstrong was greeted with "Hello, Satchmo." Armstrong liked the shortened version of his nickname so much he used it as an album title. |
