Consonance A type of harmony that relaxes the listener. The opposite of dissonance.

Cool A relaxed version of Bebop with smooth phrasing and contemporary harmonies.
Dissonance A type of harmony that caused tension for the listener. The opposite of consonance.
Free Form No set pattern for the order of themes used in a song.
Free Jazz A style of jazz where pulse, meter and form are not essential elements.
Fusion The style of jazz that combines elements of jazz and rock.
Groove A term for a melodic idea that sets a mood
Hard Bop A blues based style with an driving beat.
Harlem Stride A more improvised style of Stride.
